Who wants to drive the Big Red Trucks?

Travis Fincher, that’s who! Travis is a volunteer firefighter, and he is the Vice President of the board of directors for Pace’s Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Travis was born in LaGrange, Georgia. He grew up in Georgia and Alabama, and went to high school in Tallassee. Travis spent much of his free time at Lake Martin during high school, and while at Auburn University.

After graduating from Auburn in 1963, Travis took a job with the State Highway Department in Los Angeles and worked there for almost 3 years. Then, he went to work for Peter Kiewit Sons Company - a general contractor. According to Travis, they built missile silos, dams, bridges, freeways, etc.-everything but houses.

Travis met his wife, Kay, while on a skiing trip at Mammoth Mountain. They both retired in January, 1998. Travis and Kay have a son, Mike, who lives in California. They bought a house in Susannah Crossing in March of 1998, and the former homeowner was a member of Pace’s Point Fire & Rescue. He encouraged Travis to join - so he did! Travis says that as a kid, he always wanted to ride on the big red trucks. Now he gets to drive them!
